This is Auckland five-piece band No Cigar playing at Totara Street live music venue in Mount Maunganui. No Cigar band members are Willy Ferrier (guitar and vocals), Sam Benson (bass, keyboard), Josh Morrice (lead guitar), Ned Gow (drums) and James Mitchell (saxophone). The band was formed in 2019, and soon formed a loyal following, leading to packed/sold out gigs in New Zealand venues, and then venues in London during a 2023 tour.

No Cigar toured the UK in May 2025, starting at Oslo, in Hackney, London. They also played in Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh, and Newcastle-upon-Tyne. What records have No Cigar released?

Their first single, Tickets to Space, was released in 2019. The following year, they released their EP Radical Road. No Cigar’s debut album Bienvenido was released in 2022. In 2023/2024 No Cigar toured New Zealand and Australia with the work of their latest album The Great Escape, recorded at Roundhead Studios in Auckland, and produced and mixed by Connor Jaine.

I’ve caught No Cigar twice live at Totara Street. Both times have been highly engaging and impressive. Their songwriting has depth, verve, and their live performances are as engaging to be at as any live act I’ve caught, as talked about in this live music photography in New Zealand article. First, very much suggest checking out their website for future gigs in a town near you.
